Aftercare

Congrats on your new work and thank you so much for your trust! Aftercare is a very important part of the process to insure that your new work heals out well. Here are some tips for taking care of your tattoo:

General guildlines:

  1. The heal out process should be considered a total of roughly 3 weeks whether starting with recovery wrap or just doing a traditional heal.

  2. Do not swim, hot tub or submerge your new tattoo in a bath for the entire time of healout. Showers are fine during healout.

  3. Protect your new work from the sun and sunburn with clothing and sunscreen

  4. Don’t pick or itch scabs (gently pat the tattoo if it’s itching a lot)

  5. If you have any questions or concerns don’t hesitate to reach out!!!

Using Recovery Wrap:

The purpose of this wrap is to collect the plasma, whick is the clear part of your blood. This is your body’s natural healing aid and will collect and can fill under the wrap with liquid. There will be amounts of ink as well that will collect and can cause your tattoo to look muddy until the wrap is removed and the area washed. This is totally normal and not to be of concern.

  1. Leave the wrap on for up to 7 days but not any longer

  2. If the wrap rolls and exposes the tattoo or if trapped liquid starts to leak from under the wrap, remove the wrap and continue the rest of the healing process with the traditional process. A small group of people can develop and allergy to the wrap which shows up as a rash developing under the area covered. If this happens also remove the wrap and do the traditional heal.

  3. When it’s time to remove the wrap, it’s easiest in a warm shower with soap.

  4. After removing the wrap, use the traditional healing instructions for the remainder of the healout time period.

Traditional Healing:

  1. Wash the tattoo with antibacterial soap (Dial Gold Bar is ideal) and water and pat dry at least 3 times a day

  2. Gently apply a thin layer of non alcohol based lotion regularly to avoid the tattoo drying out and scabbing. Aquaphor or an unscented waterbased lotion like Lubriderm work well.
